How did you use the new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Video/Photo Cameras payed a big part in my project because they were used very frequently and without them i would not have been able to create and finish any of my work. My ancillary tasks required me to take photographs for the magazine cover and film poster, so for this i used still frames of the videos i shot for the actual trailer. On the magazine cover i also needed to take a photograph so i used a regular camera. Throughout my work i had learned many new skills with a video camera and filming for my trailer became something i really enjoyed because of how versatile the video camera is.

Photoshop has had a massive impact to my work throughout the Media subject because my strengths and skills have grown through using it and i have learnt many different things which i did not know about at all, i had also learnt many different tools which helped me in other subjects too. Throughout this project there have been many things which i have had the opportunity to use Photoshop for and one of those being the magazine cover, i made this cover entirely from photoshop using a range of different tools and methods. Photoshop was also used when making the film poster and really helped me to create professional looking pieces of work.

Flickr is something which has been really useful when analysing images because i can create notes on top of the images which specify certain points when you hover over them with the mouse. It is also very useful because i can store all my images online publicly with Url links which i can join onto my blog and include where needed.

Garageband on the mac enabled us to create backing music for our horror film trailer. Before media i had no clue how to use it and now i have developed my skills and know how to create many different sound effects and play around with the use of preset sounds and mixes. The sound that we created on garageband was one of the most important things to be included on our trailer because without it there would be no sense of horror and everything would just seem pointless. The music that we created enabled us to create an eery sound which kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

Blogger has been the most useful of all the tools i have used throughout this project because i have been able to display all of my work on it, with my own page and viewable by any of the public. It is incredibly versatile and customisable which allows me to add my own personal touch instead of having to stick to one basic format and shape. I have also been able to use many different sites on the web and ways that i can show my work on blogger such as videos and pictures. The mix of media on my blog is definitely much better than just having blocks and blocks of text because this would be very much like a website form essay which isn't the most exciting and engaging way to display work for the average person.

Finalcut Pro & Adobe After Effects have been very educational experiences for me because i have learnt how to do so much from nothing. At the start i didn't have a clue what i was doing on the software but i gradually learnt the ropes and can now complete many different tasks with the software. It is safe to say that without this software our trailer would not be anywhere near the quality that it is at now, cause it enabled us to create so many professional effects and filters which really made the horror type film that we aimed to make. Adobe After Effects was another piece of software which was fascinating to use because of its dedication to special effects and professional touches. We only used this bit of software for one part of our trailer and that was for the ending scene where the face morph took place, and it was me which personally created and edited this part. This was by no means a simple process and i had to follow a number of different Tutorials which i found on youtube to make sure that i had done the job properly.

Youtube enables us to view millions of videos online and upload our own to share across to the world. It was very important for our trailer because we could view other existing trailers and  get inspiration from them, and without doing this i don't think that our final product would be at the same state that it is in at the moment. We also uploaded our trailer to youtube when we had finished as a way to display it to the world which was a really bold way to show our work.

I think that new media technologies were extremely important when creating our media products because without them we would not be able to finish our work to anywhere near the professional standard that it is at. Media technologies are forever growing and there are so many exciting new ways out there to create amazing pieces of art and media.
